ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The Roanoke Solid Waste Division is experiencing a one-day delay in service this week for 36 scheduled collection routes.
The City of Roanoke says the delay is due to staffing shortages from retirements, resignations, and staff health issues.
“Many of the labor-related challenges that have negatively impacted other municipal solid waste collection programs throughout the United States are now affecting the on-time service delivery here in Roanoke,” said city officials in a Facebook post on Wednesday, May 18.
According to the Roanoke Solid Waste Management Division, officials are in the process of recruiting and aim to fill vacancies as soon as possible.
“Division staff appreciate customers’ patience during this time and request that residents simply leave their waste at their approved set out locations and it will be collected as soon as possible,” said the division.
Star City residents are asked to leave their trash where they normally leave it and it will be collected as soon as possible.
Roanoke Solid Waste Management will continue to use social media to keep residents updated on any delays in scheduled service. You can also reach out by calling 540-853-2000, option 1 to report any service delays.
