ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – At least one Roanoke resident is calling for an internal investigation into City Councilman Robert Jeffrey Jr.
David Garland addressed city council on Monday, Aug. 16, saying that he wants them to look into whether Jeffrey violated any policy as a city official and to make the findings public.
Jeffrey is accused of embezzling at least $50,000 and remotely wiping data from his city-issued iPad.
City council members did not respond to Garland’s request during the meeting.
Mayor Sherman Lea tells WFXR News that he is not aware of an investigation into Jeffrey, other than the one that is being conducted by the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
Jeffrey is scheduled for a trial on Oct. 25.
