ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (WFXR) – Charges have been upgraded against a former Rocky Mount police officer who is accused of participating in the Capitol riot last year.
Thomas Robertson now faces a new indictment of “civil disorder” as well as a new “dangerous weapon” charge to an existing misdemeanor.
Investigators say that Robertson carried a “large wooden stick” into the Capitol.
Plea deals have been denied by the federal government several times.
Robertson’s co-defendant, Jacob Fracker, also a former Rocky Mount officer has asked for his case and Robertson’s case to be separated, so he has the option for a plea deal.
So far, prosecutors have only been offering deals to both men together.
