BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia State Police have identified the man who was killed in a head-on crash in Botetourt County Saturday night, as well as the wrong-way driver and the other person injured during the incident.

According to police, the crash took place just before 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 18 along Route 460, near Blue Ridge Springs Road.

Authorities say a 2012 Toyota Scion was heading east in the westbound lanes of Route 460 and ended up colliding with a westbound 2012 Chevrolet Malibu.  

Officials tell WFXR News that the wrong-way driver and the passenger in the Toyota Scion — identified as 27-year-old Mauricio Noe Benitez-Mejia of Nashville, Tennessee, and 47-year-old Marcos Gutierrez-Rodriguez, respectively — were brought to Roanoke Memorial Hospital to be treated injuries received in the crash.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Chevrolet — 30-year-old Keley Michael Davis of Blacksburg — died at the scene of the collision, Virginia State Police say.

Benitez-Mejia was reportedly wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, but Davis was not.

According to authorities, charges are pending against Benitez-Mejia in connection with this deadly collision.
