UPDATE: Crash cleared on I-81 in Roanoke County

UPDATE: 6:03 p.m.: Crews have cleared a crash that shut down a part of Interstate 81 on Thursday afternoon in Roanoke County.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) reported that the crash happened at mile marker 134. It caused drivers to deal with several miles back up.


UPDATE 5:48 p.m.: The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is now reporting a two-mile delay on Interstate 81 at mile marker 134 in Roanoke County.

No lanes are closed at this time.


UPDATE 4:38 p.m.: Drivers are experiencing approximately a six-mile backup because of a car crash on Interstate 81, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

The crash happened at mile marker 134 in Roanoke County on Thursday evening causing the north right shoulder to be closed. No lanes are closed.

VDOT originally reported it being southbound on I-81 but a few minutes later reported it being northbound on the interstate, according to their Twitter account.


ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is reporting a backup on southbound Interstate 81 because of a car crash.

It happened at mile marker 134 in Roanoke County on Thursday evening.

VDOT says the south left lane is closed.
