UPDATE 4:12 p.m.: According to the Roanoke Police Department, an autopsy of the woman whose body was found in Belmont Park early Friday morning has determined that her cause of death was a gunshot wound.

UPDATE 2:15 p.m.: The Roanoke Police Department says a homicide investigation is underway after a woman’s body was found in a southeast Roanoke park early Friday morning.

According to police, the E-911 Center notified them about a “suspicious situation” at Belmont Park at approximately 4:21 a.m. on Friday, July 22.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found an unresponsive and injured woman, who was pronounced dead by Roanoke Fire-EMS.

Officials say they will not release the woman’s identity until they notify her family.

Authorities tell WFXR News they did not find any suspects at the scene and have not made any arrests in connection with this ongoing homicide investigation.
