UPDATE: Body discovered in Roanoke County near Niagara Dam Tuesday, officials say

UPDATE 1:15 p.m.: Roanoke Fire-EMS says its swiftwater team is assisting the Roanoke County police officers and first responders to recover the dead body found at Niagara Dam Tuesday morning.

First responders from Roanoke County, Roanoke City, and the U.S. Park Service all assisted in recovering the body.

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Police are investigating after a body was found close to Niagara Dam in Roanoke County Tuesday morning.

According to a Roanoke County spokesperson, the body was discovered in the water near Niagara Dam — which is southeast of Vinton near Shelbourne Avenue — at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 26.

Officials say the body will be brought to the Medical Examiner’s Office in order to be identified.

This investigation is ongoing at this time.
