At least seven hospitalized after series of crashes in Botetourt County Thursday

BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Crews in Botetourt County had a busy Thursday, bringing at least seven people to the hospital following a series of crashes in the Buchanan area.

According to the Botetourt County Department of Fire and EMS, the first incident was a multi-vehicle crash at mile marker 161 of I-81 North. As of 5:50 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, the department says five patients were brought to the hospital while several others were being evaluated.

While first responders were still on the scene of the I-81 crash, the department says two more crashes occurred on Lee Highway in the Buchanan area, sending two more people to the hospital.

“The system has been extremely busy, but all the right resources came together from across the county and our neighbors in Rockbridge to assist,” the Botetourt County Department of Fire and EMS wrote on Facebook. “We also had a couple medical bystanders that stopped at two of the crashes to render aide as well.”
