(WFXR) – Goodwill Stores are encouraging everyone to start 2021 clutter-free.

They are asking for donations before the end of the year as those who do bring in items can use their items for tax purposes with a donation receipt.

Normally, Goodwill sees donations dwindle during the cold winter months but the store encourages those who want to donate to do so to help replenish their sales floor with items guests are in search of including coats, sweaters, pants, etc.

By donating before the end of the year, you can claim the donation and potentially get a higher refund on your taxes.

Goodwill also accept monetary donations through the mail which can be sent to the following address:

P.O. Box 6159
Roanoke, VA 24017

Donations that are postmarked by Dec. 31, 2020 will receive a 2020 tax receipt.

Last year, Goodwill says 89-percent of revenues generated, directly supported Goodwill training and employment.

“People in our community benefit from the generosity of the public when they choose to entrust Goodwill with their donations. There is a tremendous amount of pride, dignity, self-respect that comes from being able to earn a paycheck and provide for your family. When someone donates to Goodwill, they provide funds for job training and employment programs, in turn, helping people in our community obtain the skills needed to find work, get a better job, or gain greater independence.”

Bruce Phipps, President & CEO of Goodwill Industries of the Valleys

Goodwill also has announced a series of virtual classes they are offering the first two weeks of 2021.
