Angels of Assisi plans $5 pet microchip clinic in Roanoke

Roanoke Valley News

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Angels of Assisi will hold a microchip clinic at the Towne Square Petco in northwest Roanoke Saturday morning.

The organization’s mobile veterinary clinic will be set up to provide these microchips at 1421 Town Square Boulevard NW from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 24.

The day before — Friday, April 23 — is National Lost Dog and Cat Awareness Day.

Did you know that one in three pets go missing during their lifetime. Of that, 80-percent are never reunited with their owner.

Angels of Assisi wants to help increase the number of pets reunited with their owners by offering $5 microchips that are easily accessible.

The clinic is open to both dogs and cats.

Microchips help increase the chance of pets being reunited with their owner, should they ever go missing. If a pet is found and taken to a veterinary clinic or shelter, they can easily be scanned.

The number is looked up in a database and the pet owners’ contact information is available so they can be reunited.

“The number of animals that enter shelters annual is startling, and the number that are never reclaimed is heartbreaking. We hope this microchip clinic enables more animals to be reclaimed by their owner if they ever end up lost. No one ever thinks it will happen to their pet, but it is best to be prepared.”
