ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – In honor of National Foster a Pet Month, Angels of Assisi is partnering with Petco Love and Skechers’ charity footwear collection, BOBS from Skechers, to recognize lifesaving foster volunteers throughout the Roanoke Valley and encourage more people to become foster parents for furry friends.
“We are very grateful to have such a wonderful group of fosters at Angels of Assisi. Every day we have animals coming through our doors that would benefit from spending time in a foster home. Whether they are young kittens and puppies, hospice animals, or animals that were just rescued and don’t quite trust humans yet, we are lucky to have amazing community members that open their homes up to help a pet in need,” said Lisa O’Neill, Executive Director at Angels of Assisi.
By being able to place animals into foster homes, Angels of Assisi says the most at-risk pets are able to get out of the shelter environment, which not only helps these pets get the specialized care and attention they need, but also frees up space so even more animals can have the opportunity at a second chance.
“It is an honor to recognize the individuals making a difference in their communities and demonstrating the lifesaving impact of fostering pets,” said Susanne Kogut, president of Petco Love. “What they are doing is so powerful. If less than 2% of the 85-million pet-owning households in the U.S. fostered one pet a year, we could eliminate unnecessary euthanasia in animal shelters nationwide tomorrow.”
Throughout the month of June, Petco Love will reportedly share foster resources and stories to show how easy and rewarding fostering is, as well as how much it helps end preventable euthanasia of pets.
Meanwhile, Angels of Assisi says Skechers has donated more than $3.1 million from the sales of its BOBS from Skechers collection to support more than 4,000 animal welfare organizations partnered with Petco Love. In addition, the company’s funds have helped Petco Love save and care for more than 700,000 shelter animals.
