ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Roanoke County Police report a single-vehicle accident in Roanoke County on August 22, resulting in the death of a man from Stuart.
Around 9:00 am on Tuesday, 52-year-old Michael Thornton was driving north in a 2005 Mack Truck on the 4200 block of Jae Valley Road when he allegedly lost control, crossed the center line, and ran off the left side of the road.
Mr. Thornton’s vehicle then struck a guardrail and went over an embankment, where it overturned and caught on fire.
Mr. Thornton died at the scene from his injuries.
Police say the investigation is ongoing, but do not believe drugs and alcohol were involved in causing the crash.
