ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia State Police (VSP) says it is investigating a two-vehicle crash that happened on Sunday, Dec. 4 on Interstate 81 in Rockbridge County.

According to a press release, the crash occurred on Interstate 81 south approximately two miles north of Sterett Road near Fairfield. The press release states, a Nissan Versa was traveling south shortly after 11 p.m. when it ran off the road and hit a guardrail. Troopers say the Nissan stopped in traffic and was hit by a tractor-trailer.

Troopers identified the Nissan driver as 37-year-old Ashley Mason Rhodes of Virginia Beach. They say Rhodes was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital where she passed away from her injuries.

VSP says the tractor-trailer driver was not injured. No charges are pending.
