BOONES MILL, Va. (WFXR) — There’s a new business owner in the town of Boones Mill, and she’s only 20 years old.
“I knew that I kind of had passion for clothing, thrift-shopping if you will,” said Kelly Weddle, owner of The Fashion Exchange.
Weddle started her own business at the beginning of 2019, buying and selling gently-used clothing out of her own closet.
She never thought it was something she could do full time.
“I got to a point where I thought I was going to close it down and just move on in my career because I was full-time in human resources,” Weddle said.
Soon enough, her inventory was overflowing, so Weddle decided to think even bigger by buying at the 10,000-square-foot warehouse, located along Digby Greene Road — all while during a pandemic.
“It turned out to be one of the biggest blessings,” said Weddle. “You know, many businesses boomed during the pandemic, and I was lucky to be one of those businesses that acquired quite a large customer base through everything.”
Just a few steps away from the store, a vendor event in support of local businesses. It was an idea that was organized by Weddle.
“I didn’t want to take it all for myself, I wanted to give other businesses the area and opportunity to really just get more exposure really,” Weddle said.
Members of her team say they couldn’t be more proud of how far she’s come.
“She hired me a few months ago to take pictures of her clothing, and she had the idea of the warehouse, and we just took off with it,” said Stephanie Liddle, Store Manager at The Fashion Exchange.
With the celebration of her grand-opening and store debut, Weddle says it’s a dream come true.
“I never imagined that I would be here this quick, so thank you,” Weddle said.
Weddle already plans to host a vendor market once every quarter. She also plans to use the extra space from the warehouse for more inventory throughout the year.
