Roanoke Mayor Lea hopes for dialogue amid Herring statement

Roanoke Mayor Sherman Lea saying he is disappointed by Herring dressing in blackface, but stopped short of calling on him to resign.
Lea says he and the attorney general are friends and have worked together in the past, and that he hopes Herring can move forward.
Lea adds that he can be forgiving about something that happened so long ago, and hopes it can spark productive discussion.
“I hope this really opens a conversation about race, and what it does. I think we can use this to talk about those issues,” he said.
Despite a similar scandal involving Governor Ralph Northam, Lea maintains that society continues to change and progress positively.
