RONAOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The Roanoke Fire-EMS Department is reminding all drivers to not park illegally, even if it’s for a few minutes.
The department shared the picture below on social media of one of their truck trying to drive through a street downtown. Firefighters say they cannot safely drive through an area simply due to illegally parked cars.
This can be hazardous and can lead to a delay in response to emergencies and put lives at risk. The fire department says when crews are not able to reach a fire quickly enough, it can cause a fire to spread and lead to the loss of property.
Firefighter says if trucks are not able to reach a victim in need of rescue this can cause injury and even death.
Roanoke Fire-EMS shared the following tips to help keep the community safe:
- Park in designated parking areas.
- Do not park in fire lanes or hydrant zones.
- Be aware of your surroundings and move your car if you see an emergency response vehicle approaching.
