Roanoke County leaders celebrated the completion of the first phase of the Plantation Road Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Streetscape improvement project today.

More than 4 million dollars in federal, state, and local funding have gone toward the project since 2009 — which includes sidewalks, trees, gutters, and more.

The improvement is about a mile long and sees around 15,000 vehicle trips per day.

The Harris Corporation’s Erik Fox says he is thrilled with the project, especially as attendants got a chance to walk down the “Yellow Brick Road” on Halloween.

“Oh absolutely. Really great for Harris, all of our employees, and I think the Hollins area in general. It just make Hollins a more appealing place to live and work,” said Erik Fox, the Vice President & General Manager of The Harris Corporation.

This map shows the designs for phase 2 of the project, which will begin soon.
