ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The Roanoke County Police Department is investigating a two-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a motorcyclist on Thursday afternoon.

According to police, around 2:47 p.m. on August 17, 61-year-old David Joel Wells, from Lafayette, was driving a 2010 Harley Davidson on West Main Street when he hit the back of a 2024 Freightliner. Roanoke County police say the tractor-trailer was making a left turn on Dow Hollow Road onto West Main Street when the crash occurred.

Wells passed away at the scene.

The truck driver was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

At this point in the investigation, police say speed, drugs, and alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Roanoke County Police are reporting a multi-vehicle crash that occurred on Dow Hollow Road on August 17.

Police say that the westbound lanes of West Main Street at the intersection of Dow Hollow Road are currently blocked, as well as a portion of the southbound lane on Dow Hollow Road.

The Virginia State Police have also closed the northbound Exit 132 offramp of I-81. Drivers in the area are asked to find alternative routes.
