SALEM, Va. (WFXR) — A new representative for the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport could bring more business and better deals to the airport, and now the Airport Commission has added a Salem representative.
The addition of the Salem commissioner will allow the airport to have more representation for localities in southwest Virginia, as well as bring in different ideas to help the airport appeal to more people in the region, and therefore bring in better service
The Salem commissioner was recently hired, along with an additional Roanoke commissioner.
“I think especially on the air service it’s absolutely critical that we have that outreach and that we have that relationship with people in both valleys. We don’t have the population density here to, a lot of times, justify larger aircrafts or even more air traffic coming in,” said Brain Boettcher, the marketing director for the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport. “So it’s important that we keep everybody in the region using this airport especially as we rebuild our air service coming out of the pandemic.”
Salem was offered a spot when the Commission was first formed in 1987, but turned it down.
However, as staff members from the airport try to expand their regional presence, they recently offered Salem a spot once again. This time, city officials accepted.
