Restaurant Week is officially underway on Williamson Road.
The event is an effort by the Williamson Road Area Business Association to help more people discover what the neighborhood has to offer. According to organizers, more than 20 restaurants are participating this year, offering lunch and/or dinner deals.
At Legends Sports Bar, managers said participating in Restaurant Week has helped bring new faces into their business.
“It gets our name out,” said Tonya Cook of Legends Sports Bar. “Everybody finds out that we have good food here, and they stop in and eat…and they become loyal customers.”
“Williamson Road is the melting pot of Roanoke,” said Wendy Jones, executive director of the Williamson Road Area Business Association.
The Williamson Road Area Business Association has run Restaurant Week in the neighborhood since 2013, Jones said. The restaurants on Williamson Road represent more than ten nationalities, and about 80 percent of those restaurants are taking part in Restaurant Week this year, she added.
“By celebrating the different cuisines that we have available and drawing people to the road to participate in that, we also allow them to look into the other businesses that are here,” Jones said.
Restaurant workers we spoke with said they agree the event is important to all of Williamson Road’s businesses.
“To keep everybody on Williamson Road and our community together,” Cook said. “For all of our businesses. A lot of them are [locally] owned, and we all try to get together and stay together.”
Restaurant Week continues through Sunday. The Williamson Road Area Business Association is also running a contest on Facebook to give away restaurant gift certificates.
