In Roanoke, many gathered today to remember and honor a special woman in Old Southwest.
In Highland Park, Joel Richert Way was dedicated Thursday afternoon.
Joel lived in Old Southwest and dedicated her life to preserving it’s history and the homes in the neighborhood.
Many who knew her said she had a passion to make her neighborhood an amazing place to live.
“She was an example of what it means to care about the place you live and of what can happen when you work hard to make your neighborhood the best it can be,” said Joseph Cobb, Roanoke City Vice Mayor.
“Most of you know that Joel was committed to the park and one of the features in the neighborhood she loved the most was the park,” said Bob Richert, Joel Richert’s husband.
Joel Richert Way is at the entrance of Highland Park at the corner of 5th Street and Washington Avenue SW.
