(WFXR) — Moviegoers, rejoice! Months after movie screens went dark amid the coronavirus pandemic, Regal Cinemas venues around the country and Virginia are reopening their doors this month, albeit with limited capacity.

The Regal River Ridge in Lynchburg reopened on Friday, May 14.

“It’s been rough dealing with the COVID restrictions because going to the movies,” said Brandon Tayler, who visited Regal River Ridge on Saturday, May 15. “It’s been my wife and I’s favorite pastime. We usually go like every weekend to try and catch a new movie so this has been really exciting for us.”

However, COVID-19 guidelines are in place at the theaters. For example, moviegoers were required to wear face coverings at all times in theaters, lobbies, and bathrooms while auditorium capacities were limited to 50%.

For the Regal Valley View Grande in Roanoke and the Regal New River Valley and RPX in Christiansburg, you’ll have to wait until Friday, May 21 for them to open their doors.
