Race to help local two year old fight rare disease

Local News

It’s a race to help a family who’s two year old daughter has a rare disease.

One mile, Lap and after lap for one special girl. Kennedy Osmulski.

“One of the biggest things is that we’ve learned, the little things that people don’t really celebrate over, we’ve learned to celebrate those things,” said Tarrah and Patrick Osmulski, Kennedy’s Parents.

As a baby, Kennedy was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

“It is a very rare condition a lot of times it’s compared to ALS or Lou Gehrig’s but for infants,” said Tarrah and Patrick Osmulski, Kennedy’s Parents.

But after about six months at a hospital in Kennedy is smiling, interacting with family and friends and is doing much better.

“Just really developed. She’s grown, she just started school and just reaching milestones that we never though were possible,” said Tarrah and Patrick Osmulski, Kennedy’s Parents.

With all those medical bills, family friend Kevin Shroyer decided to hit the pavement and help out.

“I’ve been blessed with a strong body and I run and not everyone is as fortunate as I and so I like to use my skills that I’ve been blessed with to help other people,” said Kevin Shroyer, Race Director.

Even though Kevin is a runner, he says he wanted the event to be one everyone can enjoy.

“Have a good little race. Everyone can do a mile whether you walk or run, or a little bit of both. So everyone can do a mile, even kids,” said Kevin Shroyer, Race Director.

Even though it was hot out, many came to run the Kennedy mile and the family says that this fundraiser is not only great for the support, but also to help educate the community about Kennedy’s condition.

“It’s been a rocky journey it has been a very tough journey but it’s been a good one,” said Tarrah and Patrick Osmulski, Kennedy’s Parents.

And as the crowds cheers for the runners, it’s the community who has gone the extra mile for Kennedy.

The event raised thousands of dollars last year and they are still taking donations for this years run.
