One state delegate is joining the push to have a popular soft drink officially recognized in Virginia.
Rep. Margaret Ransone (R) has introduced legislation that would make Northern Neck Ginger Ale the official soft drink of Virginia.
Last July, a petition titled, ‘Make it official, Virginia!’ was created that called for Virginia to recognize the soft drink among the state’s many icons, like our state bat (Virginia Big-eared bat), beverage (milk), dog (American Foxhound) and insect (Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly).
Northern Neck Ginger Ale was first concocted in Montross back in 1926 and has since become increasingly available at grocery and convenience stores across the state.
“We, the undersigned, call on the leadership of Virginia to recognize Northern Neck Ginger Ale’s place among the Commonwealth’s many icons! A crisp, refreshing beverage enjoyed at many functions, from backyard barbecues to official government receptions, it is truly a Virginian classic. Therefore, we petition that Northern Neck Ginger Ale be named Virginia’s official soft drink!”
