Poll shows Perriello and Gillespie lead parties

Local News

A new poll in the race for Virginia’s Governor’s mansion shows former congressman Tom Perriello with  a six point lead over Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam in the Democratic primary.

The poll conducted by the Hampton University Center for Public Policy last week shows Perriello has 22% percent of the support for the Democratic nomination.
Northam has 16%.
On the Republican side, Ed Gillespie has a sizable lead over challengers Frank Wagner and Corey Stewart.
Gillespie has 25% of the support to 9% for Wagner and 8% for Stewart.
The poll suggests if the general election was held now for governor, the Republican Gillespie would take a narrow victory over either Democrat.
Gillespie held a 28% lead over 26% for Perriello and 21% for Northam.
The margin of error for the poll is +/- 4.2%.
