Local News

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – The shooting at the McDonald’s on Williamson Road earlier today happened quickly, according to witnesses on the scene.

“I was really surprised. I was a little nervous, and I was shaken up, too,” says Kaye Richardson.

Richardson was eating lunch in her car at McDonald’s. She says everything seemed quiet.

“I was playing a game on my phone, and I seen the two cars pull up. I didn’t see nothing going on. There was no loud noise. No talking, or anything,” she said.

Then, an apparent shootout.

She says she heard gunshots and ducked down in her car. She didn’t know what happened after that.

Police in Roanoke said a short time later that one man involved in the shooting had died.

“We heard it coming down in the neighborhood app that there had been a shooting in the neighborhood, so we decided to come on over and take a look what was going on,” said Donna Heavner who lives and works in the neighborhood.

Heavner says it’s starting to be an everyday incident in the area.

While on-scene, WFXR News saw a man handcuffed and was being put in the back of a police car, but Roanoke police say that no arrests have been made in this case.

The shooting is being investigated as a homicide.
