CHATHAM, Va. (WFXR) – Beginning Sunday, April 12, all Convenience Center sites in Pittsylvania County will be closed every Sunday amid Governor Northam’s State of Emergency.
Convenience centers will close each Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. and will reopen Mondays starting at 6 a.m.
The Sunday closure will continue until further notice.
It is believed that this increased volume is due to advanced spring cleaning by county citizens prompted by Governor Northam’s various COVID-19 related travel restrictions. This increase in trash volume has caused a significant stress on the trash collection system and workforce at convenience center sites. This adjustment in operational hours will allow us to maintain a level of service that our citizens have come to expect.”David Smitherman, Pittsylvania County Administrator
Pittsylvania County citizens are being asked to remain aware of overflowing trash containers at each site and consider returning at a later time to allow for full containers to be cleared out or an empty container.
Citizens with larger loads of trash as well as loads of lumber are asked to consider using the Pittsylvania County Landfill at 382 Rainbow Lane in Dry Fork to avoid quickly filling the bulk trash containers.
Hours for the landfill are between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Normal hours for operation at convenience centers run from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
