ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – High pressure will continue to control our weather for Friday and the weekend. The upper-level pattern starts to break down, so there will be a noticeable increase in cloud cover.
Friday morning will start warm with summerlike heat returning for the afternoon hours.
A cold front is advancing across the nation and will move close to the region over the weekend. It could bring a few showers to the Highlands and western slopes on Sunday with areawide chances for light showers Monday into Tuesday.

Cold air, bottled up in the northwestern part of the U.S. will start to move eastward into the Northern Plains, arriving in Virginia on Tuesday of next week.

In addition to the cold air, wind speeds will increase starting on Monday. We may get a brief break on Tuesday before the cold breeze picks back up on Wednesday.

Above-average temperatures will drop below average for the middle part of next week.
