One more day of 90-degree heat is expected before cooler air arrives in the region.
Saturday will start dry with showers and storms expected to form after noon. Any storms that do form should weaken and fizzle out as temperatures drop in the evening. Most of the region is expected to dry out between 10 p.m. and midnight.
Storms that form could become severe in parts of the region. The New River Valley has a marginal risk of severe weather with gusty winds and heavy rain possible. The strong storm threat shifts to Southside on Sunday.
Daily rain chances continue for Monday and Tuesday with highs near 80. Temperatures will remain below average Wednesday through Friday. Rain chances could return for midweek as tropical moisture returns. A wave in the Gulf of Mexico could come ashore in Florida and work its way northward. If it does, heavy rain is a possibility for midweek. The rain should move out for the end of the week and next weekend.
