Relief from the heat is coming to Virginia for one day. Temperatures on Wednesday will start in the 50s and 60s and top out in the mid 80s.

The heat returns to the region for Thursday and Friday as strong upper-level high pressure builds to the east.

Rain chances could start to come back as winds shift to the northeast in the upper levels of the atmosphere. Small rain chances are expected Thursday and Friday.

Better rain chances return as a cold front moves in for the weekend. Finally, temperatures will return to near to below-average levels starting Sunday and continuing into next week.

The tropics will remain active as well, with Franklin remaining a tropical storm. We will have to watch it closely as it moves into the Atlantic. Right now, it is expected to remain offshore.
