Pick up a book in honor of Read Across America Day!

(WFXR) — If you’re looking for something to do with your kids on Tuesday, pick up a book because it’s Read Across America Day!

This week also kicks off National Reading Month, which is meant to encourage literacy.

Read Across America Day — held annually on March 2 — has long been associated with Dr. Seuss because it falls on his birthday.

Numerous school districts across southwest and central Virginia — as well as a fire department — have also announced dress-up days, held virtual reading sessions, and more in honor of Read Across America Day:

• Buena Vista Fire Department

• Danville Public Schools

• Franklin County Public Schools

• Halifax County Public Schools

• Henry County Public Schools

• Lexington City Schools

• Martinsville City Public Schools

• Roanoke City Public Schools
