UPDATE 12:42 p.m.: A pedestrian has been hospitalized after being hit by a vehicle along Wards Road in Campbell County Thursday morning.
Virginia State Police says state troopers responded to a crash along Wards Road (U.S. Route 29 South) near the intersection with Fnb Drive at 6:48 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1.
According to police, a pedestrian was struck by an oncoming vehicle while crossing the southbound lanes. Authorities say it was dark at the time of the crash, and the vehicle was not able to avoid hitting the pedestrian.
The pedestrian was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but the driver of the vehicle was not injured, according to Virginia State Police.
Even though the crash is still under investigation, police say no charges are being filed against the driver.
UPDATE 8:39 a.m.: According to VDOT, crews have cleared the scene of Thursday morning’s crash along U.S. Route 29 South in Campbell County.
However, the condition of the pedestrian hit by a vehicle near the Sheetz on Wards Road is still unknown at this time.

Police say the incident took place along U.S. Route 29 South near the Sheetz on Wards Road.
According to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), delays are expected following the crash due to the closure of the southbound right lane on U.S. Route 29 near FNB Drive and Russell Woods Drive.
