Parking, crossing concerns at McAfee Knob

Local News

As the weather warms up, more hikers are expected to visit McAfee Knob.

It’s one of the most photographed place in Southwest Virginia, but the parking lot along Route 311 can quickly fill up.

Roanoke County police have posted more ‘No Parking’ signs along the windy road, and warn hikers that they can be ticketed or even towed if they park alongside the road near the trailhead.

Several hikers heading back to their cars Sunday afternoon said they hope drivers will slow down at the pedestrian crossing, where hikers cross Route 311 to get from the parking lot to the trail.
