ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Through a partnership with Downtown Roanoke, Inc. and Roanoke City Public Schools, ALCOVA Mortgage is set to kick off the “Park It on the Market” school supply drive Friday in downtown Roanoke.

The goal of the event is to fill an entire school bus with pencils, paper, crayons, and more to help Roanoke public school students in need, according to ALCOVA Mortgage.

“Because of COVID 19, the need for school supplies is even greater this year,” said ALCOVA Mortgage owner, Rob Lindstrom. “We’re looking forward to working with our realtor partners, local businesses and our community to fill up the bus with supplies for kids in need.”

ALCOVA Mortgage says the event is scheduled to line up with Virginia’s Sales Tax Holiday, which encourages shoppers to purchase qualifying school supplies without paying sales tax.

According to ALCOVA Mortgage, the following school supplies are needed the most:

  • Notebook paper
  • Pens
  • Pencils
  • Crayons
  • Colored pencils
  • Pencil boxes
  • Rulers
  • Glue sticks
  • Backpacks
  • Copy paper
  • Markers

Local businesses and community members are encouraged to donate supplies at “Park It on the Market,” which is set to take place at Roanoke’s Historic City Market from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, and Friday, Aug. 14.

However, for those who cannot make it to the events at City Market, officials say you can still drop off supplies at ALCOVA Mortgage branches in Roanoke, the Kirk Family YMCA, The YMCA Express at Gainsboro, or Kids Square until Friday, Aug. 14.
