UPDATE 1:04 P.M. ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The Roanoke Fire-EMS Department says one person was treated for minor injuries after a fire in an apartment building on Sunday morning.

On Aug. 27, firefighters were called to Melrose Towers, at the 3000 block of Melrose Avenue, for reports of a trash shoot/compactor in flames. When crews arrived, they found smoke conditions on the 9th floor where they discovered the fire in a trash shoot.

As a result, residents evacuated the building due to smoke conditions.

Currently, the cause of the fire is unknown.
