UPDATE 2:30 p.m.: Police have identified the victim in a fatal single-vehicle crash on Thursday night in Lynchburg.
According to the Lynchburg Police Department, an officer suspected that a driver was under the influence and conducted a traffic stop at 10:44 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20.
The driver reportedly pulled into the Essex Bank parking lot at 3638 Old Forest Road and stopped his vehicle. However, before the officer got out of his patrol car, the department says the suspect vehicle drove out of the parking lot and sped away on Old Forest Road until crashing on 501 South near Lakeside Drive.
The police department says its officers identified the vehicle’s deceased occupant as 37-year-old Antonio Terrell Hunt, Sr. of Lynchburg.
The crash is still under investigation, according to authorities.

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – The Lynchburg Police Department is investigating after a single vehicle crashed near 501 South near Lakeside Drive.
A Lynchburg Police Department officer attempted to stop a vehicle near the intersection of Old Forest Road and Wiggington Drive at around 10:44 p.m.
The driver then took off at a high rate of speed. The officer lost sight of the vehicle after a short chase and terminated the pursuit.
Some time later, a bystander called 911 to report a vehicle had driven off the road and crashed on 501 South past the intersection of Lakeside Drive. The Lynchburg Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the single occupant to the Lynchburg General Hospital. The driver died as a result of their injuries.
This crash is still under investigation.
