ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The Roanoke Fire-EMS Department says one person has been taken to the hospital and six people are now without a place to live, after a fire on Saturday morning.

According to Roanoke Fire, on Oct. 7, around 5:32 a.m., crews were dispatched to the 1200 block of Rorer Avenue SW for reports of a house fire.

Upon arrival, crews discovered flames coming from the second-story window. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to a room.

Roanoke Fire-EMS says one pet was rescued from the house; however, several other pets are still missing.

Firefighters said the American Red Cross is assisting the victims.

At this time, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
