One dead, another injured in Amherst shooting Saturday; 18-year-old in custody

AMHERST, Va. (WFXR) – A man is dead and another is injured after a shooting Saturday night in the Canody’s Store Road area, according to the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office. Eighteen-year-old Carson Candler was taken into custody on scene for allegedly killing 43-year-old Justin Samuels and injuring 40-year-old Blakeman Norconk.

Norconk has been transported to Lynchburg General Hospital.

Candler is charged with Second Degree Murder, Malicious Wounding, and two counts of Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony. He is currently being held at the Amherst County Adult Detention Center, according to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail Authority website.

No further information is available to be released at this time.

The Amherst County Sheriff’s Office will release information when it is appropriate and not detrimental to the ongoing investigation.
