LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — A number of organizations and officials from around Lynchburg are ready to work together alongside One Community One Voice Lynchburg to unite and celebrate community at Saturday’s “Building Our Community Together” event.
According to One Community One Voice Lynchburg, members of the organization will work alongside their community partners to distribute free shoes, clothes, school supplies, employment opportunities, and voter registration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1, at Riverfront Park.
In addition, officials say the event will feature live musical performances and food trucks, but remind attendees that masks will be required — and will be provided — and social distancing will be enforced.
“We want this event to unify and build community spirit and be a fun celebration for everyone as we prepare for a new school year,” One Community One Voice Lynchburg wrote on the event description.
The Facebook event description for “Building Our Community Together” says it is a collaborative effort between One Community One Voice Lynchburg, Lynchburg City Schools, the Lynchburg Police Department, the Lynchburg Fire Department, the Lynchburg Sheriff’s Office, the Lynchburg Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, The Lighthouse, the University of Lynchburg, No Walls Ministry, Open Table Walmart, and more.
The event has already raised $5,670 toward the $6,000 goal to provide hundreds of community members with new shoes and socks through Samaritan’s Feet as of 10 a.m. on Saturday, but if you would like to donate to the cause, click here.
