UPDATE: Man injured in officer-involved shooting at Ashton Heights Apartments in Roanoke

UPDATE 5:10 a.m.: Roanoke Police Department says one person is in the hospital after an officer-involved shooting at the Ashton Heights Apartments in Roanoke Thursday.

The man who was shot during the incident is suffering from life-threatening injuries.

The Roanoke Police Department says officers saw two men they believe were involved in another shooting that happened Monday.

Police say they attempted to stop and talk to the men, but the men started running away. During the pursuit, one of the men fired shots at officers. At least two officers returned fire and struck the man.

This is an ongoing investigation. WFXR News will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.

UPDATE 6:45 p.m.: Roanoke police say they this incident started when officers saw two young men they thought were involved with a previous shooting on June 22.

Police say they attempted to get out to speak to them and there was a quick pursuit. One of the young men fired shots at officers who then fired back striking one of the young men.

That man was taken to the hospital. His condition is unknown.

The other young man is still on the loose. Police are looking for him.

Police say a firearm was recovered from the scene.

The officers involved will be removed from street duty and the investigation into this matter is ongoing.

Police will release the names of the officers involved at a later time.

According to police, they believe these two men were involved in the shooting on June 22.

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Roanoke Police are on the scene of an “officer involved indecent” at Ashton Heights Apartments on Dona Drive in Roanoke, according to police spokesperson Caitlyn Cline.

Police have not released more information on the situation.

Police initially confirmed to WFXR News that the incident was located at Caru Apartments. This story has since been updated.
