North Carolina man killed in Carroll County Crash

One person is dead, and two others were injured after an accident in Carroll County late Monday night.

According to Virginia State Police, it happened on Route 687 when the driver of the vehicle suddenly braked and ran off the side of the road, striking several trees.

23-year-old Seth Steed of Lexington, North Carolina was found dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected from the car.

The driver was taken to the hospital for serious injuries, one of the other passengers only suffered minor injures.

The crash is still under investigation.

Virginia State Police Trooper K.D. Blackburn is investigating a single-vehicle crash in Carroll County. The crash occurred at 8:45 p.m., on Nov. 27 on Route 687, less than a mile west of Route 679.

A 1992 Nissan D21 was traveling west on Route 687. As the vehicle came into a curve, the driver suddenly braked. The vehicle ran off the left side of the highway, went down an embankment, struck several trees and overturned.

The driver, a 26-year-old male from Ararat, Va., was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

A 28-year-old female passenger suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt.

A second passenger, Seth P. Steed, 23, of Lexington, N.C., died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected from the vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation. Charges are pending at this time.
