WYTHE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A Wythe County dive team recovered a body after first responders were dispatched to a possible drowning at Rural Retreat Lake Tuesday night.
According to the Rural Retreat Volunteer Fire Department, fire and rescue crews responded to the Rural Retreat Lake boat ramp for a potential drowning incident just after 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25.

Several hours later, fire officials say the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office dive team and the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources recovered the body.
“Please remember the family and friends in your thoughts and prayers,” the Rural Retreat Volunteer Fire Department posted on Facebook on Wednesday, May 25. “Thank you to all the agency’s that assisted in this mission.”
