Wythe County Sheriff’s Office warns people of scam surrounding Southwest Credit

New River Valley News

WYTHE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Wythe County Sheriff’s Office wants to warn people of a scam alert. Deputies say they have received several reports that Southwest Credit has contacted people regarding outstanding debt.

The sheriff’s office stated in a Facebook post this week that the scammer was telling people they had “debt with Verizon and will offer to settle the debt for a lower amount.”

Deputies want to remind people to never provide personal information, that a company will never ask for payment in the form of gift cards, and to always go straight to your vendor or local store.
