New River Valley News

GILES COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia State Police are investigating a crash in Giles County that left a Montgomery County man dead and two Pulaski County men injured last week.

Just before 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, officials say state troopers were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash on Big Stoney Creek Road, just north of Norcross Road.

According to police, a 2015 Ford F-250 was traveling north when it ran off the left side of the road and hit a tree.

The driver — identified as 59-year-old David J. Mitchell of Christiansburg — was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene of the crash.

Meanwhile, two passengers — 37-year-old Akeem L. Metz and 52-year-old Milton R. Boysaw, both from Dublin — were brought to the hospital with serious injuries. Authorities say Metz was wearing a seatbelt and sitting in the front seat, but Boysaw was sitting in the back seat without a seatbelt.

Virginia State Police say this fatal crash investigation is still ongoing.
