UPDATE: NY man dead after thrown from motorcycle in Wythe County Monday morning

UPDATE 12:34 p.m. (9/7/21): Virginia State Police identified a New York man as the motorcyclist who died after being thrown from a motorcycle in Wythe County Monday morning.

According to police, the single-vehicle crash occurred shortly after 9 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 6 at mile marker 72 on I-81.

Authorities say a 2020 Harley-Davidson Street Glide was heading north on I-81 when it ran off the left side of the highway and struck the guardrail.

The motorcycle’s operator — identified by Virginia State Police as 46-year-old Yacek Castillo of Yonkers, NY — was wearing a helmet, but he died at the scene after being thrown from the motorcycle.

This fatal crash investigation is still ongoing.


WYTHE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — An investigation is underway after a Monday morning crash left a motorcyclist dead in Wythe County.

According to Virginia State Police, state troopers responded to the single-vehicle crash shortly after 9 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 6.

Police say a motorcycle was heading north on I-81 when it ran off the left side of the highway and hit the guardrail near mile marker 72, leaving the motorcyclist dead at the scene.

Officials say they are still working to notify the victim’s next of kin as of this writing.

The investigation into this fatal crash is reportedly ongoing.
