SMYTH COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A Carroll County man is dead after being thrown from his motorcycle and hit by a vehicle Monday evening in Smyth County, just north of Route 617.

According to Virginia State Police, a 2005 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was heading north on Route 16 when it lost control coming out of a curve, crossed the center line, and laid over shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 24.

Police say the driver — 49-year-old David S. Greer, Jr. of Hillsville — was thrown from the motorcycle, landed in the southbound lane, and was hit by an oncoming 2016 Nissan Frontier. Greer was reportedly wearing a helmet.

Medflight brought Greer to Johnson City Medical Center, but he died from his injuries on Tuesday, May 25, officials say.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Nissan was reportedly not injured in the crash, which is still under investigation.
