Virginia Tech Police announce death of retired K-9 Boomer

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) – The Virginia Tech Police Department has announced the death of a beloved retired K-9.

Boomer was a member of the force for eight years, joining the department in 2008 as the department’s first explosives detection K-9.

Boomer, along with his handler, Officer Larry Wooddell retired together in 2016.

“Our thanks to retired VTPD Officer Larry Wooddell and his family for making Boomer a member of their family and giving him a great home. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this time.”
