VDOT is saying that backups behind the incident at mile marker 12.7 are approximately ten miles.

Southbound onramps at exit 14 are also blocked.

Drivers should consider finding an alternate route.


UPDATE 4:50 p.m.: In the last hour, there have been no significant changes to the issue involving a vehicle fire on I-77 south in Carroll County.

Backups are still reported to be approximately eight miles behind the fire, located at mile marker 12.7.

VDOT is saying that backups have increased to eight miles behind the incident at mile marker 12.7.


CARROLL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – A vehicle fire along southbound I-77 in Carroll County has resulted in significant backlogs for those traveling south of Hillsville.

According to VDOT, the incident is at mile marker 12.7 and is blocking the right lane and right shoulder of I-77 south.

Backups are reported to be approximately seven miles.

Drivers are urged to find another route.
