Twin County Community Foundation expands WCC scholarship for NRV high school graduates

New River Valley News

WYTHEVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — Thanks to the expansion of the Twin County Community Foundation (TCCF) Community College Tuition Assistance Program, Wytheville Community College (WCC) has become more affordable for recent high school graduates from Carroll County, Grayson County, and the City of Galax.

WCC says the program initially covered 100% of last-dollar tuition for students enrolled in five health programs when it was first established, but then it expanded to cover 50% of last-dollar tuition for students enrolled in other programs.

Starting in the fall 2021 semester, school officials say the TCCF Board plans to expand the scholarship program to cover 100% of last-dollar tuition costs for students enrolled in any of WCC’s academic programs.

However, the scholarship eligibility requirements have not changed, according to WCC.

The TCCF-funded scholarship program will pay for tuition and fee costs at WCC — after financial aid awards are applied — for up to five consecutive semesters once students graduate from Carroll County, Galax, or Grayson County high schools with a minimum grade point average of 3.0. However, provisions may be available for home schooled and GED students.

All recipients must have resided in the Twin Counties for at least two years prior to receiving the scholarship; have a completed Financial Aid file, including completion of the FAFSA; and apply for other available scholarships.

“WCC is most grateful to the Twin County Community Foundation for expanding its scholarship program for WCC students,” said Dr. Dean Sprinkle, president of Wytheville Community College. “This scholarship increases access to higher education to many students and enables them to earn the degrees and credentials that they need without accumulating a great deal of student debt. We appreciate the Twin County Community Foundation’s investment in our students and our community.”
