VSP: Tractor-trailer driver dead after early morning crash in Wythe County

WYTHE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — An out-of-state tractor-trailer driver is dead after an early morning crash off I-81 in Wythe County.

Virginia State Police say they responded to a single-vehicle crash on the exit 72 off-ramp of I-81 just before 4:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 26.

According to police, a 2006 Kenworth tractor-trailer ran off the left side of the road, hit a guardrail, and overturned.

The driver — identified by officials as 55-year-old Kenneth R. Nelson of Forest, Ohio — died at the scene of the crash.

This crash is still under investigation, Virginia State Police say.
